Four Day Volunteering Trip to Guangde, Anhui Province


From Monday 8th to Thursday 11th June 2015, we are preparing to take a group of volunteers to teach English to “left-behind” children at Zhenlong Primary Boarding School in Anhui Guangde

We will be delivering fun and interactive English lessons to all the students in the school, and will have a half-day excursion into the beautiful local bamboo forest.

Cost:           RMB 1,600, including:

  • Round-trip by bus from Shanghai;
  • Outing to bamboo forest;
  • 3 nights’ hotel accommodation;
  • All meals;
  • Full time staff support;
  • Pre-departure preparatory training;
  • Lesson plans and teaching materials;
  • Administrative & training costs;
  • Volunteering certificate for all participants.

Deposit:      RMB1,000, to be paid by 29th May.  Places secured on a first come first served basis on payment of deposit.  Minimum number of participants: 4

Training will be provided the week before the trip at the Stepping Stones office (date and time t.b.d.)

Zhenlong Primary Boarding School: Located in Guangde Township, Anhui, Zhenlong primary boarding school is only a 3 hours drive from Shanghai . Founded in 2000 in rural Anhui, the school was moved to the developmental zone of Guangde township in 2004.

With 100 staff including 50 teachers, the school has now more than 1000 students enrolled from Grade 1 to Grade 6. 90% of the students are “left-behind” children; their parents having migrated to developed cities to work for an enhanced income.

Although English is not a compulsory subject, the school sees English as key for children’s improved education.

Volunteer requirements: Volunteers must be in good health and have good discipline, good English skills and a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards teaching young children.

Other: Volunteers aged 13-18 may join only if accompanied by their parent, guardian or teacher, who will take full responsibility for them during the tour.
