Rural Volunteering Tours – Jiangsu

Join an unforgettable volunteering tour to teach English to children in rural primary schools in Jiangdu, Jiangsu! 

The Basics
When:      No tour currently scheduled
Where:     Guocun, Jiangdu District, Yangzhou Municipality, Jiangsu Province
What:       1.5 days of voluntary English teaching to students at two rural primary schools in an under-privileged part of rural Jiangsu
Who:        Volunteers wanting to spend a weekend to travel and learn more about China while giving back to a rural community.
Cost:           RMB 1,800 per person, including:

  • Round-trip from Shanghai and local road transport by minivan;
  • 2 full time support staff;
  • Pre-departure preparatory training;
  • 2 nights’ hotel accommodation;
  • 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches; 1 dinner;
  • Evening excursion to Yangzhou’s leisure street;
  • Gifts for the students;
  • Teaching advice, support and resources;
  • Administrative & training costs;
  • A contribution to Stepping Stones;
  • Volunteering Certificate for all participants;
  • A Stepping Stones t-shirt

Deposit:  RMB800 per person to be paid by [t.b.a.]

Capacity:    Minimum 18, maximum 24 participants (on a first come first served basis on payment of deposit).

Training: t.b.a., 1.30-4 pm

Lesson planning advice and teaching resources will be provided for the English classes, and volunteers will be placed in teaching teams of two or three.  Each teaching team will teach classes of 20 – 30 students.

The lessons will be taught through an English medium and may incorporate craft and sports activities as well as more classroom-based English language learning.

Volunteer requirements: Volunteers must be in good health and have good discipline, good English skills and a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards teaching young children.

Other: Volunteers aged 14-18 may join only if accompanied by their parent, guardian or teacher, who will take full responsibility for them during the tour.
